Most eSBCs are designed solely to support SIP-to-SIP communication, offering little to no consideration for legacy equipment connectivity, network survivability, security, or quality of service. TDM-to-IP telephony is typically managed through an analog telephony adapter, so small offices will need at least two devices (in some cases five) to implement an all-IP migration.

Patton Electronics products offer secure voice and data convergence with up to eight integrated FXS ports. The devices also include a status-monitoring firewall with TLS/SRTP (Transport Layer Security/Secure Real-time Transport Protocol) encryption for signaling and voice, as well as configurable mechanisms for preventing phone fraud and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.
With failover and load balancing mechanisms for traditional (TDM) and LTE line survival, the units ensure business continuity.
The SmartNode 4141 gateway can be transformed into a sophisticated, multifunctional eSBC device through simple license activation. Furthermore, the carrier-level dual-image feature (rarely found in on-premises equipment due to its limited port count) provides system-wide rollback capabilities for software updates. Patton offers this feature to service providers at no additional charge.
