The 7th generation ETERNUS CS8000 now offers unparalleled capacity expansion from 14 to over 60 petabytes, a 400,000% increase. Hourly throughput can also be boosted from 8 to 150 TB, representing an 1,800% scalability for real-world data transfer and recovery operations. Furthermore, Fujitsu has increased the number of internal processor nodes and the flexibility of the internal software, raising the number of available front-end processor nodes in the ETERNUS CS8000 from 10 to 22. This also more than doubles the number of available virtual tape drives, from the already market-leading 2,540 to approximately 5,208. The resulting increase in parallel data throughput is dramatically reduced.
The ETERNUS CS8000 now also incorporates support for solid-state drives (SSDs), improving the performance of optional deduplication processes and offering even greater benefits for mainframe environments. Long-term data can be cost-effectively stored on tape in the ETERNUS CS8000 backend, fully managed by automated Information Lifecycle Management, while faster SSDs can be used for mainframe processes in system backup storage, making the ETERNUS CS8000 even more attractive for mainframe backup, even in smaller environments.
Information Lifecycle Management also eliminates human error by automating data handling at all stages of the lifecycle and ensuring its availability. For example, all tapes are regularly checked for media degradation, with new copies automatically created when necessary. For an additional level of data availability, the multi-site (unique-split) distributed system configuration makes it possible to deploy a single ETERNUS CS8000 system across two geographically separate sites with synchronous caching and mirroring. Enhanced by the management of multiple copies on disk and tape, this type of deployment is fail-safe, making it the most reliable backup and archiving solution for protecting mission-critical data in mainframe or open systems environments.
