The aim is to improve the energy efficiency of the ETSIDI building, located on Ronda de Valencia in the center of Madrid, and to achieve cost savings through improved space management. Cleaning, classroom maintenance, and security processes have been optimized.

Likewise, teachers, workers, students and researchers have access to the Smart Building tool to obtain and analyze data about the spaces, improving management processes at the center, and working on new lines of research in the field of energy efficiency and automation.

panel-Snsorial -UnaBiz-wHow is the process of transforming ETSIDI into a smart building going?
First, the space is being digitized using small sensors in various elements and areas. Next, data is collected directly from the sensors for subsequent analysis using proprietary models that apply AI and Machine Learning. Finally, the space is enhanced thanks to Snsorial's knowledge and decision maps, accessible through a dashboard, an API, alarms, and event notifications. All of this is connected to UnaBiz's 0G network, whose most distinctive features revolve around sustainability and energy efficiency.

The project began in June and will be developed over the course of a year with the aim of automating internal processes (cleaning, security, and efficiency) and studying its general implementation throughout the rest of the building and other facilities of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. According to historical data, savings in resources and maintenance time could range from 8% to 30%.

So far, two deployments have been completed (in Room A14 and Room B21) with the following indicators:
Quantification of attendance and usage times (areas, uses, and patterns).
Improved distribution, efficiency, and optimization of cleaning tasks and priorities.
Improved distribution, efficiency, and optimization of security tasks and energy consumption.
Integration and interoperability with existing planning and maintenance systems.
Real-time occupancy map.
Other functionalities (efficiency, room capacity, preventive maintenance, etc.).
Benefits of the 0G network and IoT for the development of smart buildings

The ETSIDI building monitors various variables using UnaBiz's 0G network connectivity. This network has several features ideal for the intelligent management of modern buildings and spaces.

First, energy consumption is minimal since the need to establish and maintain a permanent connection between the device and the network is eliminated, thanks to its radio-based operation. Second, there's the low cost. Because the energy required by sensors connected to the 0G network is exponentially lower than most IoT alternatives, the solutions offer very long battery life, lasting several years. Furthermore, there are numerous certified hardware providers, and the solutions involve minimal installation and deployment costs. Finally, there's their simplicity. The solutions require no cabling, configuration, SIM management, pairing, or roaming.

The use of IoT also allows for the optimization, through automation, of the collection of key data on temperature control, turning lights on and off, measuring air quality, etc.

Having real-time data on different variables also helps in making informed decisions and taking appropriate measures. For example, it allows you to know the best time to ventilate classrooms, achieving an optimal balance between climate control and air quality.

“UnaBiz’s 0G network, based on alternative standards, doesn’t require extensive infrastructure development and allows for the deployment of hundreds of sensors at a very low cost and with minimal environmental impact, leading to cost and energy savings. We are very pleased to have participated in the ETSIDI project, in partnership with Snsorial, to contribute to its transformation into a smart building. It is undeniable that IoT plays a significant role in the creation of these spaces, and more and more cities, buildings, and homes are using this technology to improve people’s quality of life, save costs, and complement their sustainability strategies,” said Manuel Álvarez, Managing Director, UnaBiz Spain.
