By offering a unique system, the IllumiMate family allows TV manufacturers to design multiple models with a single connector type and printed circuit board format.
“LED-based backlighting systems continue to expand in flat-screen televisions as manufacturers strive for higher resolutions, reduced energy consumption, thinner screens, and a wider range of sizes and features. Previously, no single connector family could meet all these diverse needs,” explains Goji Tanabe, Molex Regional Product Manager. He continues, “The new Molex IllumiMate series, with 1.00 mm and 1.25 mm pitches, not only meets the demand for narrow, low-power connectors but is also more versatile, offering the widest mating and voltage configurability currently available.”
The 1.00 mm pitch IllumiMate connector saves approximately 50% of space compared to the 1.25 mm pitch version and offers lower voltage options to help reduce power consumption. Both the 1.00 mm and 1.25 mm pitch families consist of different voltage, circuit size, and wire gauge options and share several key features, including:
• Positive friction locking mechanisms that provide a secure lock, save space, and prevent wire tangles; center-position friction lock with a window for visual monitoring of mating security.
• Guide ribs that protect the pins while preventing incorrect mating and lateral displacement. In the 1.00 mm pitch version, the guide ribs are located at the end of the housing, while in the 1.25 mm pitch version, they are closer to the center.
• Wide front solder tabs for secure PCB mounting.
• Dual contact terminal design, enabling stable electrical contact with low insertion force.
