According to estimates from Nokia Siemens Networks, GSM subscriptions supporting machine-to-machine (M2M) applications are expected to reach 1 billion by 2015. This increase in the use of GSM networks to support automated communication between devices and applications will make signaling capacity, traffic management, and quality of service (QoS) important issues for operators.

Australian air navigation service provider Airservices Australia has awarded Indra the contract to modernize the network of radar surveillance stations that support en-route aircraft movements in the eastern part of the country. The contract, with a 54-month execution period, is valued at 38 million Australian dollars (AUD).

Motorola Solutions , through its partner Telefónica Soluciones de Informática y Comunicaciones, has been awarded the contract to increase the number of mobile terminals used by Correos (the Spanish postal service). This is the third contract of its kind: 2,000 units were supplied in 2006 for USES (Special Services Unit) personnel, and this was subsequently increased by another 8,340 units in 2008 for urban delivery units.
