Developed by OPTRAL's Innovation and Product Engineering Area, the new model withstands pressures of more than 50 bar, guaranteeing total watertightness, as demonstrated by the results obtained at the Testing, Research and Services Center (CEIS), located in Móstoles (Madrid).
The CEIS issued certificate number CEL-0859/20-1 dated 13-11-2020 on the CFO type cable AL-SWA-PE UNDERSEA 125 kN (ET.94.875) under the CIGRÉ 623 TB, 2015 recommendation, “Recommendations for mechanical testing of submarine cables”.
This design allows OPTRAL and Grupo COFITEL to "dive" into a new world of opportunities, since until now their offering focused on submarine cables for depths of up to 100 meters, manufactured with protective elements (steel wires) and polyethylene covers.
For this purpose, the CFO type cable AL-SWA-PE UNDERSEA 125 kN incorporates a gel-filled aluminum tube over the optical core that can accommodate up to 96 optical fibers and resist crushing by withstanding forces of up to 10 kN.

This cable also features marine-grade absorbent tapes for enhanced water sealing in case of sheathing cracks caused by snagging on debris, marine animal bites, or falling or detached materials.
Available in multimode (10, 40, and 100 Gbps) and single-mode (10, 40, 100, 200, and 400 Gbps) configurations with OM3, OM4, OM4+, and OS2 fiber, this innovative system is the ideal solution for speeds exceeding 10 GbE.
A version with a stainless steel tube optical core for up to 96 fibers is also under development, available in bundles of 12 and 24 fibers and with lengths between 4,000 and 5,000 meters per reel.
Submarine fiber optic cables enable the transmission of high bandwidths over extremely long distances, overcoming any natural or man-made geographical obstacles.
