10g-converter-sfpwebThe iMcV-10G-Converter SFP+ enables strategic high-bandwidth network operators, such as ISPs (Internet Service Providers), telecommunications companies, municipalities, medical facilities, and large university campuses, to perform conversions between different types of fiber within the same network and transport huge amounts of data over long distances.

As a single-width module, this new converter optimizes the cost per slot in a multi-port chassis, while its modular form factor also allows for installation in a wide variety of chassis (20, 6, 3, 2, or 1 slot). It supports a wide range of protocols and enables remote management from a central office using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). The new SFP+ form factor joins the company's existing 10G fiber portfolio, which includes the XFP, Mux/DeMux/4, and WDM/2 media converters.
Advantages of fiber infrastructure over copper include bandwidth, security, bidirectional data transmission, and the ability to cover distances of up to 100 km, rather than just 100 m. As the demand for high-bandwidth applications, such as data storage and internet access, has skyrocketed, various sectors are migrating to fiber optic technology. This technology allows for long-distance installations using tools that enable secure management of network segments.
For example, ISPs and telecommunications companies need 10G infrastructure to support their customers' bandwidth-intensive applications and downloads, such as online gaming and video streaming. Medical facilities require high bandwidth to transport large image files, such as MRIs, X-rays, and other data between laboratories and hospitals. Municipalities need it to transfer police and fire reports, for instance, while satellite campuses use it to store and transfer student files.
The B&B Electronics iMcV-10G-Converter SFP+ is protocol-independent and features dual SFP+ ports that can provide single-mode to multi-mode fiber, single-mode to single-mode fiber, or multi-mode to single-strand single-mode fiber. Because the ports do not incorporate any proprietary technology, they accept any SFP+ module that complies with the SFF-8431 standard, as defined by the SFF Committee, 2009, Rev 4.1. The hot-swappable nature of SFP+ and the numerous available protocols and fiber types allow for easy configuration and future expansion as network needs evolve.
The DDMI (Data & Diagnostics Management Information) function of B&B Electronics' SFP+ transceivers allows users to view the SFP+ status (fiber type, manufacturer, output power) when the company's iMcV-10G SFP+ module is installed in a chassis with an SNMP management module also installed. All B&B fiber products include their iView2 graphical user interface-based SNMP software, which enables network operators to easily configure and manage remote network nodes from a central management host. iView2 can run independently on Windows NT/XP/2000/7 or as a web server running under IIS.
The module supports a wide variety of 10G protocols, including 10G Ethernet, 10G Fibre Channel, and OC-192, accessible via DIP switches on the module itself. Although the module is Plug-and-Play (PNP), the optional DIP switch configuration for specific 10G applications makes this device a flexible choice for various types of installations.
Multi-Mode, Single-Mode, Single-Strand, and CWDM fiber types are available at distances up to 80 km. The 10G converter and SFP+ transceivers come with a lifetime warranty.
