Based on open community initiatives and the Open Networking Foundation's (ONF) CORD® architecture, the SD-PON solution provides operators with the reliability, scalability, and manageability essential to enabling carrier-grade service delivery environments. Furthermore, the solution is verified to offer line-rate services to end users.

For this solution, Iskratel provided its SI3000 Lumia dual-nature GPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT), which takes on the role of a physical OLT (pOLT) in the configuration. Unlike other solutions that rely on 1U box OLTs, this unique solution utilizes a multi-blade hardware-based chassis.

The Iskratel pOLT SI3000 Lumia GPON integrates with Radisys' cloud-based SD-PON, which provides the solution's control and management planes and has the ability to integrate with orchestration, management, and self-configuration systems based on the Broadband Forum's TR-069 protocol.

The control plane configuration is based on the latest version of CORD architecture, which enables the Virtual OLT Hardware Abstraction (vOLTHA) to drive pOLTs and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) through an extended OpenOLT interface, which is hardened for operator-level use.
