5G technology in industrial applications will lead to operational efficiency in manufacturing processes, increased use of process automation, and greater operational autonomy in factories. Keysight's comprehensive portfolio and expertise in network infrastructure solutions, application testing, and devices will support the 5G-ACIA, a unique alliance in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, to accelerate the development of interconnected technologies, a key component of establishing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) using 5G.
With over 50 members, the 5G-ACIA works to establish a new ICT and operational technology (OT) ecosystem and coordinates 3GPP standardization activities relevant to the requirements of the automation and manufacturing industries. Its members represent leading mobile operators, network equipment manufacturers, chip and device manufacturers, industrial automation solution providers, automotive manufacturers, research institutes, and other prominent companies operating worldwide. Keysight has joined the 5G-ACIA to further support the development of 5G industries, building on its contributions to other key alliances such as the 5G Automotive Association (5G-AA).
"We are pleased to join the 5G-ACIA, an alliance focused on ensuring that 5G technologies meet and address industrial use cases and requirements in the automation, engineering, and process industries," said Giampaolo Tardioli, Vice President of Keysight's Network Access group. “Keysight’s leading position in 5G, as well as its experience in collaborating with standards bodies such as 3GPP and CTIA, will support 5G-ACIA in its efforts to create effective testing standards and ensure the certification of related components.”
The next generation of mobile technology—5G—will enable a wide range of new use cases and business models, including those focused on machine-to-machine communication and the Internet of Things (IoT). 5G technology will provide communication with unprecedented reliability and very low latency, as well as compatibility with the massive connectivity of the IoT. This type of capability is laying the foundation for the next era of industrial production, known as "Industry 4.0," which will significantly improve the flexibility, versatility, usability, and efficiency of future smart factories.
“We have witnessed a surge of interest in 5G for the industrial IoT over the past year. The first version of the standard is now available, and the first 5G consumer products are reaching the market: 5G is a reality,” stated Dr. Andreas Mueller (Bosch), President of 5G-ACIA. “However, there is still work to be done to unlock the enormous potential that 5G offers in the manufacturing industry. 5G-ACIA was established to fill the gaps in this regard and to bring together the relevant stakeholders in the emerging industrial 5G ecosystem. We are delighted to welcome Keysight Technologies as a new member. Their deep expertise in testing and measurement will contribute to ensuring the success of 5G.”
