Telefónica del Perú continues to lead the telecommunications industry in the region, exceeding the high demands of its users in Peru and improving its competitiveness in the Latin American market. The partnership between ZTE and Telefónica del Perú aims to build a unified fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) IMS platform to provide VoLTE and services to mobile and fixed-line users, thus becoming the first commercial VoLTE and FMC network in Latin America.
In 2012, Telefónica del Perú modernized its fixed-line telephone network by deploying an IMS core network to replace its TDM time-division switches. ZTE's IMS solution supports most network services (PSTN/ISDN) and multiple legacy end-user interfaces, such as Basic Rate Interface (BRI), Primary Rate Interface (PRI), Ordinary Telephone Service (POTS), and Network-Based Signaling (NCS). This helped Telefónica del Perú successfully overcome the challenges of managing its legacy TDM switches and reduce operating costs while maintaining traditional terminals and service integrity. ZTE's IMS solution supports narrowband access and broadband access technologies such as LTE and xPON. These capabilities allow Telefónica del Perú to lay the foundation for a future unified core network.
In August 2015, after commercializing its fixed IMS network, Telefónica del Perú began implementing FMC and IMS VoLTE projects to improve its competitiveness in the mobile internet era. It continued to select ZTE as its sole provider to implement IMS technology for this FMC project. ZTE upgraded the entities in the existing IMS network and built a new VoLTE SBC service, thus completing the delivery.
ZTE's IMS solution offers a comprehensive suite of converged voice services alongside those already provided by the existing network. Thanks to this project, Telefónica del Perú's IMS network now offers twice the voice call and supplementary services already available on the CS network. It also adds value-added services such as Call Me Now (CMN), Voicemail Service (VMS), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Missed Calls (MCA), Ringtone (RBT), Collect Calls (CC), and TUGO. The solution provides VoLTE high-definition audio and video, as well as combined LTE voice and data. ZTE completed the project in less than 10 months in a multi-vendor environment while maintaining network redundancy.
