The Murata ABZ LoRa module is a small, cost-effective LoRaWAN module capable of supporting a wide range of sensors via 18 general-purpose inputs and outputs (GPIOs). The module includes a Semtech SX1276 ultra-long-range deployed spectrum wireless transceiver and a 32-bit STMicro STM32L0 ARM® Cortex®-M0+ series microcontroller, communicating via UART, SPI, or I2C interfaces. The STM32L0 microcontroller includes 192 KB of flash memory and 20 KB of RAM, providing ample memory for integrating customer applications and accommodating additional modulation stacks. The microcontroller also offers an optional STSAFE security element to enhance network security capabilities.
The ABZ Type module has pre-certified regulatory radio approvals for operation in the 868 MHz and 915 MHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) spectrum bands in most geographic regions worldwide. The device's normal output power is +14 dBm, but a PA amplification function can be selected to increase the radio frequency (RF) output to +20 dBm for long-range applications. The module also integrates a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) with robust, low-drift thermal characteristics to provide a precise timing source for the Semtech transceiver.
The Murata ABZ-type module measures only 12.5 × 11.6 × 1.76 mm and is housed in a shielded metal package. Typical applications for the module include smart metering, wearables, tracking, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, and IoT end nodes.
