Depending on the frequency range, the amplitude can be adjusted from -30 dBm to +25 dBm. This series is also characterized by very low phase noise (e.g., -133 dBc/Hz @ 1 GHz, 10 kHz (typ.)).
Harmonics are up to 50 dBc below the carrier, ensuring highly accurate, interference-free signal generation. Amplitude and frequency switching time is <3 ms. RIGOL's patented, fully digital amplitude control technology delivers amplitude accuracy of <0.7 dB (typical). However, the generator excels in frequency accuracy: the 10 MHz reference frequency accuracy is +/-1 ppm (optional with OXCO; +/-10 ppb). This makes highly synchronized transmission of multiple channels in phase possible. The generator offers long-term phase stability of, for example, <1° at 10 GHz, as well as individual phase shift, making it ideal for extended testing.

Analog modulation methods, such as analog (AM), frequency (FM), and phase (PM), can be generated across the entire frequency range starting at 1 MHz using one or all channels. The device also offers pulse modulation with a typical rise/fall time of 20 ns across the same frequency range. Depending on the carrier frequency, the on/off level can be up to 80 dB (typically). The DSG5000 series also offers a pulse train function with up to 2047 pulse patterns, for example, to create a desired radar profile. In this case, the pulse widths of the on/off zones can also be adjusted as needed, from 20 ns to 170 ns. The integrated sweep function can be used as a list or by selecting increments for either amplitude, frequency, or both.

The 3.5 mm (male) HF output jacks are located on one side of the front panel. There are also four additional outputs per channel on the front panel, including a pulse for signal validity or trigger inputs/outputs, as well as a pulse signal output during pulse generation or a pulse output during sweep operation.

The device is easy to operate via an intuitive 3.5" color touchscreen or through web control. No driver installation is required on the PC to use web control. Optionally, a monitor can also be connected via the HDMI interface, and the device can be operated using a mouse, which connects via the USB 3.0 device interfaces on the front of the device. Like all RIGOL devices, the DSG5000 series can also be fully controlled via SCPI commands over LAN (up to 1000 T-Base) or the USB 3.0 device interfaces. The devices are 2U rack-width, allowing for easy integration into a rack system using the optional rack mounting kit.

If eight channels are insufficient, multiple DSG5000 units can be interconnected and synchronized to achieve the desired number of channels for the application. The device offers a 4.8 GHz synchronization frequency for the inputs and outputs on the back for this purpose.
The DSG5000 series provides an optimal solution for numerous microwave applications, such as EMC stress testing, MIMO applications, system configurations for quantum computer stimulation and testing, radar signal generation, and much more.
