In recent years, RF and mmWave technologies have pushed frequencies above 100 GHz with extensive bandwidth requirements, easily reaching tens of GHz. Technologies such as 802.11ay (WiGig), 802.11ad (gigabit wireless), satellite communications, radar, and 5G all operate at frequencies that extend into the mmWave spectrum. Traditionally, measurements at these frequencies required a mix of instruments and down-converters that caused degradation, or the need to purchase an expensive 1 mm input oscilloscope with a bandwidth of 80 to 110 GHz.
Keysight's mmWave Broadband Analyzer and UXR Series oscilloscopes enable dynamic broadband analysis for frequencies up to 110 GHz, offering customers:
• A single-bandwidth model that matches conventional RF equipment, where the price corresponds to the analysis bandwidth required, eliminating the need to purchase the full frequency range supported by the oscilloscope hardware.
• The ability to configure optional 5 GHz or 10 GHz analysis bandwidth windows within and above the native licensed bandwidth of the UXR, limited only by the maximum frequency range supported by the hardware.
• Hardware-accelerated DDC for real-time decimation of oscilloscope captures, enabling deep captures that extend beyond several seconds and speeding up to 100 times faster than non-decimated measurements.
• Availability of a Digital Downconversion (DDC) analysis bandwidth exceeding 2 GHz, which can be used in conjunction with available mmWave frequency extension options to extend DDC-accelerated frequency ranges up to 110 GHz.
• Optimal signal integrity with an error vector magnitude (EVM) below 0.6% in New 5G Radio (NR) FR2 testing and 1% for 802.11ay technologies, for example. The EVM measurements taken reflect the true performance of the device under test (DUT), without disturbances caused by measurement system noise.
“Keysight recognized the growing need for an affordable oscilloscope that could support the broadband measurement requirements of today’s emerging mmWave technologies,” said Brad Doerr, Vice President and General Manager of Digital and Photonics R&D for Keysight’s Communications Solutions Group. “The Keysight UXR is the first oscilloscope on the market to address mmWave technologies and advanced applications such as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) with up to four channels for the price of a 25 GHz oscilloscope.”.
