Pre-commercial 5G base stations
ZTE Corporation is introducing a full range of pre-commercial 5G mmWave and Sub6GHz base stations. This launch allows operators to deploy these products ahead of schedule and capitalize on opportunities in the 5G era, so consumers can experience the superior speeds of 5G sooner than expected.
At MWC, ZTE showcased its full range of pre-commercial 5G mmWave and Sub6GHz products, supporting common 5G frequency bands and new air interfaces and new 5G radio (NR) technologies from the Third Generation Partnership Projects (3GPP). The series extensively utilizes multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), beam tracking, beamforming, and other key 5G technologies, meeting the pre-commercial 5G deployment requirements in various scenarios. The 5G Sub6GHz base stations are the smallest and lightest base stations in the industry, boasting the highest level of integration and data throughput of up to 10 Gbps. ZTE and its strategic partner, China Mobile, also conducted a joint demonstration of the pre-commercial 5G mmWave base station.
In 2016, ZTE became the first vendor in the world to verify key technologies in the 5G mmWave and Sub6GHz fields and successfully completed 5G mmWave field trials. With outstanding performance, ZTE ranked first and passed all tests in the first phase of China's 5G trial. ZTE has successfully completed 5G prototype and single-point technology verification and has now entered the 5G product research and development and solution verification phase. The launch of its full series of 5G mmWave and Sub6GHz base stations has paved the way for subsequent 5G deployments and pre-commercial trials.
As a key 5G technology, Massive MIMO plays a vital role in improving frequency efficiency and air interface bandwidth. In June 2014, ZTE became the world's first vendor to propose the innovative Pre5G concept in the 4G era and to bring Massive MIMO into commercial use ahead of schedule, meeting customers' growing data demands and enabling a smooth transition to 5G. To date, ZTE's Pre5G Massive MIMO has been widely deployed with China Mobile, Softbank (in Japan), and other major international markets.
Massive MIMO, widely recognized by operators and the industry, is already being used in 5G deployments on existing mobile networks. It can also resolve technology and application issues encountered during commercial operation, significantly accelerating the maturation of essential 5G technologies and effectively reducing the product verification and large-scale commercial deployment time. ZTE has filed hundreds of technical patent applications and contributed numerous valuable proposals to standards organizations regarding this technology, based on a vast amount of data collected from real-world scenarios.
Zhang Jianguo, senior vice president of ZTE, said: "ZTE will continue its innovation in the 5G field to meet customers' product and service needs. ZTE will take its place in the world's first commercial 5G market and lay a solid foundation for the future Internet of Things (IoT)."
