The system integrates the new Wi-Fi 6 protocol. D-Link has summarized all the advantages it offers compared to the previous Wi-Fi 5 in a landing page, delving into the technical and graphical description of new features such as OFMDA, 1024-QAM, BSS Coloring, MU-MIMO, Target Wake Time, etc.
Another major technical advantage of Wi-Fi 6 is that it also operates on the 2.4 GHz band (the previous Wi-Fi 5 only operated on the 5 GHz band, dropping to Wi-Fi N on 2.4 GHz connections). Since the 2.4 GHz band is more efficient at longer distances from the transmitter, this results in a significant performance increase. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 6 incorporates MU-MIMO uplink/downlink (the last version, Wi-Fi 5 Wave 2, also integrated MU-MIMO, but only for downlink), which, along with OFDMA and 1024-QAM, considerably reduces latency and increases network performance and capacity.
Keyfeatures of the D-Link COVR-X1862 and COVR-X1863 kits:
• Seamless mesh Wi-Fi network with automatic roaming between nodes
• System expandable up to 4 nodes; also allows adding the D-Link DAP-X1860 Wi-Fi 6 Mesh wall extender
• Latest generation dual-band Wi-Fi 6, up to 1.8 Gbps
• Smart Roaming, OFDMA, 1024QAM, BSS coloring, MU-MIMO uplink/downlink
• Two usage modes: mesh extenders from any ISP's router or router + mesh extender(s) mode to use one of the nodes as a neutral router (leaving the ISP's router in bridge mode or using triple VLAN)
• 1 Gigabit LAN port and 1 Gigabit WAN port on each node
• Supports Ethernet backhaul to interconnect the nodes via LAN cable and enable them to act as access points without signal loss between nodes (backbone network) 1 Gigabit) ideal for homes that already have an RJ-45 LAN connection in every room, now mandatory in new construction.
• Easy setup via the D-Link WiFi app; no computer required. Compatible with any router or internet service provider.
• Manageable via web interface or D-Link WiFi app. If a node is configured as the network router, it offers traffic prioritization (QoS), parental controls, guest WiFi, secure VPN access, and more.
• New WPA3 encryption protocol for maximum security.
• Voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
The D-Link COVR Wi-Fi 6 kits are now available at a recommended retail price of €175 for the two-node COVR-X1862 and €265 for the three-node COVR-X1863. The D-Link DAP-X1860 wall extender, compatible with these COVR kits as well as D-Link's range of Wi-Fi 6 routers, is also available now at a recommended retail price of €79.
