These connectors are lightweight, cost-effective, easy to assemble, and offer an additional locking system.
Traditionally, robust, military-grade metal connectors have been used for military and defense applications. The need for governments to reduce spending has partially opened this market to non-military-grade components, as not all military vehicles require the same level of reliability. Since armored vehicles are primarily used for troop transport, a good example would be that while the internal structure incorporates weaponry, radios, or driving controls that require military-grade connectors, other applications such as lighting and mirrors, or functions like climate control, can accept lighter and more economical plastic connectors.
APD circular plastic connectors support up to 48V, and a wide range is available, from 1 to 51 types, with features such as high resistance to vibration and fluids, and high sealing ratings, reaching up to IP67/IP69K. As specified by ISO 15170, they are available with machined or stamped contacts and a color code.
