Designed to work with high conductivity applications in harsh environments, the CMC header is an industry standard interface used in transmission systems in the automotive and transportation sectors, such as engine control units (ECUs), automatic gearboxes, suspension controllers, or electric parking brakes.
Selvan Wilhelm, Molex's global product manager, states, "Using CMC and power standard connectors, our customers can achieve a hybrid, modular, and cost-effective connection system for high, medium, and low current wire-to-board connections in passenger cars and commercial vehicles."
The new Molex 154-circuit rectangular header, with three pockets and pin terminals, improves productivity and reduces costs by enabling solderless assembly, unlike conventional snap-in assembly processes. The 154-circuit header incorporates 120 signal pins (0.635 mm), 24 terminals (1.50 mm), and 10 power pins (2.80 mm) to support high currents in applications such as large ECUs. The sophisticated and robust design of the integral guide plate protects all five rows of terminals and ensures firm positioning, while withstanding high vibration levels of up to 10 G. Ideal for use in heavy agricultural machinery, the 154-circuit connection system operates with up to 50 coupling cycles to couple and decouple multiple ECUs in different applications.
The new 32-circuit rectangular header with a single pocket, featuring solder-mount terminals, is designed for smaller transmission systems and hydraulic and electronic suspension controllers. Meanwhile, the 112-circuit rectangular header with three pockets, also featuring solder-mount terminals, is designed for any ECU application requiring a higher number of circuits. Both headers are made from a hydrolytically stable, flame-retardant plastic material (UL 94V-0 rated) suitable for epoxy bonding, making them ideal for sealed applications.
The 154-circuit printhead is also available with custom circuit combinations to customer specifications. The 32- and 112-circuit printheads feature the same standard cutout shape as the 48- (500762) and 80- (502225) circuit Molex printheads. Different color codes allow for modularity and easy connection of CMC connectors and printheads.
