With a nominal voltage of up to 1000 V AC or DC and a robust design, this product is ideal for high-efficiency power conversion applications and highly reliable power systems in demanding environments. Applications for which it is designed include power inverters, servers, switches and routers used in data centers, power converters for alternative energy sources, and military and aerospace products.
With a configurable molded platform, the FORGE power connector allows users to specify the number of modules in the housing, as well as the size and location of the contacts. Housings can be designed in two-row and one-to-five-column configurations for up to 10 modules and a current-carrying capacity of over 1000 A (depending on the configuration). This adaptability allows TE to quickly provide a power connector that reduces design time and saves space.
Another advantage of these connectors is the use of POWER ARCH contacts, high-conductivity contacts also manufactured by TE, which allow for a much lower coupling resistance than the power pickup contacts currently available on the market. This low coupling resistance facilitates mating for a secure connection and helps reduce potential damage during mating/unmating cycles.
The contacts are safe to touch and are available in five sizes with current ratings from 3 to 250 A per contact. The product also offers three mating sequences for use in live-connection applications. Sequencing the contacts helps control electrical arcing during mating and unmapping.
