Both cards are PCI Express compliant and feature up to two CAN interfaces that can operate in either CAN or CAN FD mode. Galvanic isolation of the channels is available as an option.
The active CAN-IB 600 also incorporates a microcontroller, making it suitable for applications with more demanding data preprocessing requirements, such as high-precision timing or active filtering of sent and received messages. The cards are supported by IXXAT's latest Windows drivers (VCI) and real-time drivers (ECI for Linux, RTX, Intime, QNX).
IXXAT's APIs for CANopen and SAE J1939 are also compatible with the new CAN-mode interfaces. For CAN and CAN FD network analysis, HMS offers the IXXAT canAnalyser, a powerful Windows tool.
Classic CAN, with its eight bytes of usable data and a maximum transmission speed of 1 Mbit/s, is used in a wide variety of applications, and not just because of its affordability and versatility.
However, applications requiring the transmission of larger amounts of data have had to adapt to other technologies until now, which entails higher costs.
Now, with its capacity of up to 64 bytes of usable data and a higher data transmission speed, CAN FD is eliminating the old limitations of CAN and is also attractive to applications that have not been able to work with CAN until now.
New CAN PC series interface for CAN FD
HMS markets a new CAN PC series interface for CAN FD under the IXXAT brand, along with a comprehensive set of drivers and support tools. With the new CAN-IB 500 and CAN-IB 600 models, HMS offers two interface cards (passive/active) compatible not only with CAN but also with the new CAN FD standard.
