Managing local area networks (LANs) that enable the transmission of data, voice, and images has become a key factor for growth and continuity for businesses today.
In fact, the current development of telecommunications, videoconferencing, multimedia services, computer networks, etc. makes the use of a structured cabling system capable of supporting any need in the field of communication indispensable.
The objective of this technical article is to explain to installers “good practices” during the design and installation phases of fiber optic networks based on national and international regulations.
General recommendations for fiber optics (internal)
• During installation, pulling forces must be minimized; extreme care must be taken with cables, bends, connectors, etc. and cleanliness must be maintained.
• All fiber optic cabling must be tested using an OPENETICS-approved certifier, in accordance with cabling standards and regulations.
• All fiber optic cabling must be labeled indicating basic data, fiber type, origin and destination.
• Installing prefabricated trunk lines with MPO connectors eliminates the need for splicing fibers and pigtails. Installation can be carried out safely by non-specialized personnel, drastically reducing costs and on-site installation time.
• Traditional fiber optic cabling requires specialized equipment (fusion splicers, cleavers, etc.) and experienced personnel. This type of precision work on-site is not highly recommended due to inadequate space and lack of cleanliness.
5 advantages of installing a fiber optic network in an infrastructure
1. The fiber adapts to the needs and requirements of the current market.
2. Fiber optics provides a data transfer speed 10 times faster than copper cable.
3. Signal theft and cloning are impossible problems in fiber optic networks.
4. Fiber optic cables are immune to electromagnetic interference and voltage fluctuations.
5. Analog equipment is inexpensive to install, but can be very expensive to maintain in the long run. Fiber optic installation may seem costly at first, but its low maintenance and durability mean the investment will pay for itself quickly with a solid return.
