Connection Panel 1The HD panel is manufactured for use with both shielded and unshielded copper cables and is also compatible with fiber optic cables. R&M recommends the latest Cat. 6A module in both shielded and unshielded versions (Cat. 6A according to ISO 11801) for use with copper connections. The use of LC and MPO/MTP adapters is suitable for fiber optic cabling. Thanks to its performance, the HD panel provides an excellent starting point for future expansions of modern high-performance data networks operating with 10 and 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet protocols.

The patch panel incorporates several innovations. Among other achievements, R&M has designed a compact unit that integrates module supports, cable management clamps, and strain relief. The unit can be quickly installed from the front of the cabinet without tools, resulting in reduced assembly and maintenance time. Thanks to its efficient design, the cable remains aligned and prevents twisting. This is crucial for stable signal transmission over copper cables. The module features additional shielding plates that prevent external crosstalk (ANEXT) between unshielded copper modules. “The results of measurements taken on the HD panel show that we have achieved an unprecedented level of ANEXT protection. The large number of unshielded copper connector modules demands particularly effective protection against electromagnetic interference,” says Regina Good-Engelhardt, Product Manager. This trend reinforces R&M’s leadership in shielding technology.

Connection Panel 3Expandable to meet application needs:
The HD panel is expandable. Users can start by installing a 24-port model and upgrade gradually as needed. R&M equips the standard version of the steel patch panel with a cable management tray on the back. The basic version has been shortened at the back, making it more suitable for narrow racks and distribution frames installed on raised floors. The standard version includes an additional plate that covers and protects the fiber optic cables. The shielded modules are automatically grounded during installation. R&M recommends using pre-assembled cable bundles during installation. This way, only the connection modules need to be attached to the mounting brackets.

Connection Panel 4Marking and Protection:
To facilitate network management, the HD panel's port numbers are laser-etched, and ample space is provided for individual labels. R&M's security system dust covers and connection locks can be used to color-code the ports and secure the connecting cables. To facilitate access to closely spaced connector rows, R&M has oriented the upper and lower copper connection rows in opposite directions for insertion. For fiber optic adapters, the insertion direction is the same for both locations, without compromising accessibility. "We want to enable a high-density approach in data centers with superior technology in terms of flexibility and security, without installation restrictions," says Regina Good-Engelhardt, explaining the objective of the new product. R&M will launch the HD panel this May as an addition to its data center product range.
