Submarine optical networks are a critical part of the global communications infrastructure, enabling cloud-based services to reach users worldwide. Given the high complexity and cost of deploying submarine optical systems, submarine network operators prefer high-performance, user-friendly, and high-capacity transmission equipment that maximizes their return on investment (ROI).

The XTS-3300 is powered by the new Infinera Infinite Capacity Engine 4 (ICE4) and is part of Infinera's Intelligent Transport Network portfolio, optimized for long-range subsea applications. It delivers the innovative performance of Infinera's ICE4 technology, including enhanced pre- and post-scatter compensation, digitally synthesized Nyquist subcarriers, and flexible error correction without a return channel. Practical testing validated ICE4's 8QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) transmission on a 600 gigabit-per-second (600G) super-channel within 140 gigahertz of the spectrum, providing the highest spectral efficiency of 4.3 bits per second per hertz with a performance margin ready for commercial use.

The Infinera DTN-X XT and XTS series, based on ICE4, are planned for general availability this quarter. Infinera's Cloud Xpress 2, also based on ICE4, began shipping in the second quarter of 2017.
