Service providers worldwide are seeing an explosion of cloud-connected devices. As these devices proliferate and are used to stream and share multimedia content, they will place enormous pressure on access infrastructure. In 2019, 80 percent of all internet traffic will be IP video, while global cloud traffic will nearly quadruple in the same period. (Statistics from Cisco and Cisco VNI GCI)
Calix's next-generation PON solutions will extend across the entire access infrastructure, from subscriber premises to enabled devices in the data center or central office of:
Subscriber Installations: The Calix Locales portfolio will be expanded to include NG-PON2 technology, including fixed and adjustable optics, across the full range of subscriber applications—from enterprise services to MDUs and residential SFUs with free Carrier Class Wi-Fi. Compass SaaS applications will also be expanded to support these technologies and deliver a true multi-gigabit experience for subscribers.
Access Infrastructure: The E7 portfolio will be enhanced by NG-PON2 cards supporting fixed 10 Gbps and TWDM wavelengths with pluggable optics. Optimized for high-bandwidth-demand and congested areas, these cards will support the delivery of symmetrical multi-wavelength 10 Gbps services.
Data Center/Head Office: The E7 portfolio will be augmented by new high-capacity cards that leverage new levels of performance in both system switching and uplink capacity.
