According to data from a study presented by Spain DC, the Spanish data center association of which Vertiv is a member, the outlook is very promising. Estimated figures for 2026 indicate that Madrid could reach a capacity of more than 70% of the Paris market, despite an estimated average growth of over 15% for the period 2022-2026.

The strong commitment of data centers in Madrid

Madrid is at the forefront of data center development in Spain, with more than 30 operational facilities and a projected investment of €6 billion by 2025. Spain's installed capacity is also significant, with a total of 113 MW and 147 MW installed in the capital, with a projected growth to 515 MW by 2025, as indicated in the report by Spain DC.

Investment in public cloud services is also growing: according to the aforementioned study by Spain DC, cloud usage increased by 64% from 2009 to 2022, and this trend will not only continue but accelerate in the coming years.

In this regard, Vertiv is also committed to the Community of Madrid (CAM), to implement an investment strategy in the capital. “It is true that Vertiv has always been very committed to supporting Spain and Madrid through all the Vertiv infrastructure we have spread across Europe… But, given the evident growth that data centers are experiencing in the CAM, we are determined to reinforce Vertiv’s commitment to this region,” says José Alfonso Gil, Service Sales Director for Southern Europe.

This commitment has always been firm, since, according to Gil, a large number of data centers located in Madrid already use some type of Vertiv technology or service.

Sustainable growth

The increasingly digital world requires data center infrastructure, but it is essential that these advancements are made possible by environmentally friendly technologies. That is why the European Pact for Climate Neutrality in Data Centers was signed, with the aim of reinforcing the commitment to implement increasingly sustainable technologies and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

But there is a long way to go in terms of energy efficiency, use of renewable energy and innovation in infrastructure that must be traveled as the presence of data centers in our country increases.

“One of Vertiv’s top priorities is sustainability. We are committed to our customers’ goals and to reducing our carbon footprint, and we are continuously implementing new technologies that allow us to optimize and reduce the energy required in data center facilities ,” Gil says.

Talent attraction

One of the clear objectives of the digitalization strategy and commitment to cutting-edge technological innovations is to attract talent to the Community of Madrid and improve employability.

This is precisely one of the major challenges facing data centers, which, despite offering promising career opportunities, are experiencing a global shortage of these professionals. Given the data from the Uptime Institute, which predicts that the global demand for data center professionals will reach 2.3 million by 2025, this initiative becomes even more crucial.

In this regard, Vertiv is involved, as a partner, in the initiatives promoted by SpainDC. “In the data center sector, we offer skilled jobs with highly competitive conditions, but we need to communicate these opportunities in the language of engineers, both men and women, and the talent we want to attract. At Vertiv, we are committed to supporting the opportunities the sector offers and will continue to collaborate with associations, colleges, and universities,” concludes Gil.
