Another advantage is that the cnWave 5G Fixed technology from Cambium Networks, Globe Telecom and Fibergreen can serve customers up to 5km away from base stations without worrying about the effect of weather on communications, offering a high-speed and quality data service in very short timeframes in areas where the current service is not optimal, reducing the digital divide in rural areas.
300 Mbps
Cambium's Fixed Wireless 5G uses the 26-28 GHz frequency band and 5GNR technology, which is also used in 5G mobile technology. "The higher the frequency, the shorter the operating range in this band, which is not usually used in sparsely populated areas, as it is not very cost-effective for mobile operators to deploy networks in these frequency bands in sparsely populated areas," comments Maurice Dini, Regional Sales Manager for Cambium Networks in the Mediterranean.
“However,” he adds, “it is very interesting for the deployment of fixed wireless 5G networks in rural areas where a single point-to-multipoint antenna can provide internet access today with speeds of 300Mbps and which, in the very near future, can be extended to more than 1Gbps.”.
Cambium Network uses radio standards commonly seen in mobile networks with the 5GNR protocol to deploy fixed wireless networks, designed 'ad hoc', that offer fast and reliable performance at exponentially lower costs than fiber or mobile-based infrastructures and with much shorter deployment times.
Meanwhile, Cambium's Fixed Wireless 5G, which uses the 5GNR protocol, will utilize the same chips as 5G mobile phones in the CPE (the equipment installed in the user's home). "In addition to providing reliability and consistency with the standard protocols, 5G chips are manufactured in the billions and their cost is low, which allows for even lower investment in the deployment of these networks," says Dini.
