Broadband metropolitan area network with WiMAX technology for ONA SOL HOTELS
Ralco Networks has designed and implemented a metropolitan area network using Wimax technology to connect the different locations of the well-known hotel chain Ona Sol Hotels.
Hotels. Ona Sol is a prestigious hotel chain in the Benidorm urban area, currently boasting 10 properties ranging from 4-star hotels to tourist apartments. Ona Sol selected Ralco Networks to carry out this project due to its extensive experience and effectiveness in developing network communication solutions using this and other technologies.
The design of the metropolitan area network required a meticulous study of the various connection possibilities between the different properties, along with corresponding field tests and coverage measurements to ensure the final solution was optimal in terms of bandwidth availability and performance. The complex urban environment of Benidorm, with its varying terrain and building heights, and the diversity of locations to be connected, significantly influenced the final solution. The WiMAX technology used was implemented by Alvarion, a pioneering manufacturer and one of the founders of the WiMAX industry, of which Ralco Networks is a partner.
This broadband wireless access technology enables high-speed transmission of voice, video, and data services between different communicating locations, thanks to advanced radio technologies. It can be deployed on both licensed and unlicensed frequencies, allowing for flexible and cost-effective solutions. Communication solutions using this technology can be implemented in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint designs. The optimal solution for Ona Sol resulted in a combination of both types of links. Of the company's 10 locations, 9 were grouped into 2 clusters, with a point-to-multipoint WiMAX link established in each cluster.
Simultaneously, a point-to-point WiMAX link was established from the main office to one location in each of the two clusters, connecting all locations with high bandwidth. Furthermore, this solution incorporates various redundancy system development options to safeguard the overall system's operation in the event of a failure. Ona Sol, with its new metropolitan area network, is reaping significant benefits for both the company and its customers, as well as a rapid return on investment.
Firstly, it allows the company to eliminate some of the communication lines it previously leased from various service providers for inter-location communications, resulting in substantial cost savings. Secondly, thanks to the high bandwidth enabled by the technology used, it significantly increases communication speeds, dramatically accelerating the use of current software applications across its various locations. This translates into greater employee productivity and faster, better customer service, which in turn benefits the company financially, in terms of quality, and in terms of reputation. Finally, and with the same objective of economic and quality improvements, the implementation of the new communications network opens the door for Ona Sol to develop and apply new services without additional communication costs. This allows them to implement, for example, voice transmission, process control, building monitoring, remote system maintenance, and high-performance video transmission. In short, the developed network eliminates past limitations, improves current conditions, and paves the way for a future of great possibilities.
