“The low cost and high processing capacity provided by cloud-delivered applications,” says Jaime Serrano, president of NEC Ibérica, “allow smaller companies to compete on equal footing with larger ones, thus opening up new business opportunities. NEC’s cloud offering, combined with its IT and networking expertise, enables Telefónica to capitalize on these rapidly emerging transformation opportunities for businesses and the company.”.
NEC's virtual desktop solution enables Telefónica to offer its business customers a virtual PC service that provides a range of benefits. These benefits include reliable and cost-effective desktop access from anywhere, at any time, and the delivery of the latest business applications instead of diverting valuable resources to searching for, acquiring, installing, and managing software on desktops and laptops. This not only results in significant cost savings compared to the management and maintenance associated with standard desktops and laptops, but also a substantial improvement in security against potential hardware theft or damage, as all data is securely stored on a central server.
This agreement, announced today, expands upon the existing agreement between Telefónica and NEC to implement SaaS (Software as a Service) in Spain for SMEs, marketed by Telefónica under the “Aplicateca” brand, as well as SaaS, virtual desktop solutions, and applications in Latin America. Since its launch in 2009, thousands of new users sign up for “Aplicateca” every month.
NEC and Telefónica will also conduct a joint feasibility study, examining the opportunities for an IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) service in the Spanish market.
NEC's Cloud Services Competence Center, based in Madrid and comprised of a global network of knowledge, services, solutions and technology, is a resource for telecom operators seeking to offer cloud services and applications to their customers.
