Microchip Technology announces its radiation-tolerant ATA6571RT CAN FD transceiver, a highly reliable communication solution specifically designed for space applications. This advanced transceiver achieves data transmission speeds of up to 5 Mbps, making it ideal for space systems such as satellites and spacecraft that require robust and efficient data transmission.
The ATA6571RT transceiver offers significant advantages over traditional CAN solutions, whose bandwidth is typically limited to 1 Mbps. With its ability to handle speeds up to 5 Mbps and larger payloads of up to 64 bytes per frame, the ATA6571RT improves efficiency and reduces bus load. Backward compatible with the classic CAN bus, the ATA6571RT facilitates a smooth transition to existing systems.
Furthermore, its Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) mechanism improves error detection, thereby increasing reliability in safety-critical applications. The ATA6571RT is designed for space applications such as platform data management, propulsion system control, sensor bus control, robotics, and onboard computers for nanosatellites, among others. To facilitate integration on printed circuit boards, this radiation-tolerant device maintains a pinout compatible with original commercial plastic- or ceramic-based versions.
“The ATA6571RT transceiver offers a cost-effective, compact, and power-efficient device designed to meet the demanding requirements of space environments,” said Leon Gross, corporate vice president of Microchip’s aerospace and defense business unit. “As a leading supplier in the aerospace and defense market, Microchip is proud of its track record in the space environment, having deployed its products in new space missions and in outer space.”
The ATA6571RT transceiver is designed to withstand harsh space conditions thanks to its resistance to single-event effects (SEE) and total ionizing dose (TID). It also features low power management with local and remote activation, as well as protection against short circuits and overheating.
The addition of the ATA6571RT CAN FD transceiver further strengthens Microchip's commitment to providing reliable, secure, high-performance solutions for demanding environments. The company's comprehensive portfolio of communication interfaces for the aerospace and defense market includes radiation-tolerant and resilient interfaces such as Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, and SpaceWire.
