Pretium EDGE AO parallel optic solutions consist of conversion modules and connectors that enable networks to fully utilize 12-fiber trunks when migrating to 40G, which uses 8-fiber trunks (four fibers transmitting at 10G in each direction). Without this conversion, data centers running 40G parallel optics on their existing fiber backbone are only utilizing 66 percent of their installed fiber.

Powered by Corning® ClearCurve® bend-sensitive multimode fiber, Pretium EDGE AO solutions provide the highest rack density for the parallel optics industry; their density is equal to that of today's 10G-density Pretium EDGE solutions and at least 33 percent better than other parallel optic solutions. By maintaining the same port density as today's 10G solutions, end users don't need to add envelopes when migrating to higher data rates. Customers moving to 40G or higher will realize a return on investment, as they will be able to fully utilize their existing fiber backbone and fiber hardware after the move.

Pretium EDGE AO solutions provide additional ROI at 100G, as the conversion and tap modules can remain in place during 100G transmission, once the IEEE 4x25G 802.3bm Ethernet draft standard (four fibers transmitting at 25G in each direction) is approved.

As part of the Pretium EDGE AO solutions, Corning is also introducing the first integrated tap port module for monitoring parallel optical multimode fiber 40GBASE-SR4 Ethernet circuits. This passive tap device integrates directly into the Pretium EDGE Solutions infrastructure, and its MTP® size allows for seamless migration with 40G electronics. Like other Corning tap port modules, Corning's integrated approach allows supervised ports to be added or removed without interrupting the active network connection and creates zero-U capacity that improves rack utilization.
