With 1.25 million square meters of logistics space and around 3,000 employees, Log'S plays a key role in the international supply chain, managing B2B and B2C operations across multiple markets. In this context, the growing threat of ransomware and prolonged recovery times posed a significant risk to business continuity.
The challenge: reducing operational risk from cyberattacks
Before the implementation of Ootbi, Log'S used a combination of disk backups and LTO tape storage. This environment had significant limitations, which can be summarized as excessive recovery times, a lack of truly immutable storage, and complex processes that increased operational vulnerability in the event of a serious incident.
In the logistics environment where every hour counts, a recovery scenario of several days could directly affect customer operations in different countries.
The solution: true immutability and simple deployment
Log'S identified two key requirements for its new backup storage solution: true immutability and ease of deployment, especially considering the small size of its infrastructure team.
“We wanted a solution that was immutable and easy to deploy, as we have a limited infrastructure team. We needed efficient solutions that would deliver direct benefits ,” explains Maxime Mouille, IT Engineer Systems and Network at Log'S.
After discovering Object First, the company opted for Ootbi, a solution specifically designed to provide immutable backup storage with native Veeam integration. The deployment process exceeded the technical team's expectations.
“The implementation process was smooth and straightforward; we were able to deploy the solution and start backups quickly,” adds Mouille. Log’S positioned Ootbi not as a replacement for its existing infrastructure, but as a strategic reinforcement to address critical security and performance gaps.
Results: recovery in 2 hours and greater operational confidence
The implementation of Ootbi has allowed Log'S to:
• Reduce recovery times by up to 98% (from 72–96 hours to approximately 2 hours).
• Ensure immutable backup storage.
• Enable Instant VM Recovery.
• Significantly strengthen your business continuity strategy.
“Our security has directly improved by having immutable backups ready to be returned to production through instant virtual machine recovery,” says Mouille. “It’s truly reassuring to know that we can have all our critical servers up and running again in just about two hours.”.
The solution also incorporates a double validation process for critical actions, such as appliance restarts, which requires approval from two members of the internal IT team and an Object First engineer, further reinforcing immutability and protection against tampering.
Beyond the technical improvements, the implementation has boosted corporate confidence in its disaster response capabilities. “The key is the solution’s simplicity and its ability to quickly restore systems ,” Mouille emphasizes. “I’d be happy not to have to use it too often (because that would mean we haven’t suffered any attacks), but if something does go wrong, I have complete confidence in having Ootbi as part of our backup system .” With this initiative, Log’S strengthens its resilience against ransomware and consolidates its business continuity strategy in a sector where availability and speed of response are critical for the international supply chain.
