The near-field communication (NFC) market is growing rapidly worldwide. Global sales of NFC-enabled mobile devices are estimated to increase by 400% between 2013 and 2018, reaching 1.2 billion units, according to IHS Technology.
One of the most widespread applications of NFC is contactless payment. Furthermore, a growing number of applications are integrating this innovative technology, such as access control, driver identification, passive vehicle entry systems, peer-to-peer file transfer, and credential storage/sharing.
To meet the growing demand for NFC antennas, PREMO presents a novel Z-axis SMD coil specially developed for signal reception/transmission at 13.56MHz.
The ZC1003HF series is a compact (10x10x3.1mm) and highly sensitive solution designed specifically for NFC applications where component size is critical. The new antenna developed by PREMO requires less PCB space compared to printed circuit board antennas and increases the read range by 30%. Additionally, the new z-axis coil offers exceptional electrical performance and mechanical robustness, providing excellent reliability, having been designed and validated to automotive standards.
The ZC1003HF series offers an inductance value of 2.5µH/13.56MHz and can be custom-designed to meet customer specifications.
The antenna consists of a high-performance NiZn ferrite core (>106 Ohm•m) with low initial permeability for high-frequency operation. It provides very stable operation over a wide temperature range (-40°C to 100°C). Furthermore, the ZC1003HF series offers high performance in the presence of ground planes or batteries.
As a surface-mount (SMD) component, it allows for easy use in automated printed circuit board assembly processes, thus increasing process reliability.
The ZC1003HF antenna can be used in RFID applications with ISO15693 (proximity: I-CODE), ISO 14443A&B (proximity: MIFARE) interface, ISO18092, and Felica.
The product is designed to work with the following chipsets: NXP: MF-RC500, MF-RC530, MF-RC531, PN511, PN512, PN531, PN532, PN533, PN544, PN547; AMS: AS3953; ST: M24LR16E-R; MELEXIS: MLX90121; and Texas Instruments: TRF7960, TRF7970A.
PREMO is expanding its NFC product range (which includes the SDTR1103-HF2 and 3DC15-HF series) with this Z-axis coil, which is currently in mass production. The antenna is RoHS compliant and meets NFC regulatory requirements.
