This equipment is capable of transforming digital television signals into analog channels, thus emulating the radio spectrum situation prior to the transition to digital terrestrial television (DTT). A COFDM-PAL headend would consist of as many modules as there are analog output channels to be distributed. An amplifier provides the channels with the necessary power for signal distribution over the coaxial network. The transmodulator
headend can complement the transparent distribution of multiple DTT channels. The resulting headend constitutes a hybrid system in which signals are distributed in both analog and digital formats.
Televes developed this equipment with users in mind who need to maintain their existing stock of analog televisions, such as hotels, residences, or hospitals, and senior citizens who may prefer to continue enjoying television in the same way as before the arrival of DTT, maintaining the channel lineup and without having to change their television or remote control.
The COFDM-PAL transmodulator also offers significant advantages for the installer:
Its vestigial sideband output allows for higher output voltage, less intermodulation, and better spectrum utilization.
It provides a flexible, configurable, and controllable system, both locally and remotely.
It enables the configuration of hybrid headends that distribute all digital packets and, after transmodulation, the channels traditionally broadcast in analog format.
It offers output on any channel within the 47–860 MHz band.
