The new solution improves device characterization and modeling, offering exceptional stability and accuracy for both connectorized and wafer measurements. Magnitude stability is better than 0.015 dB and phase accuracy is better than 0.15 degrees over a 24-hour period.

The solution's calibration capabilities are supported by an enhanced accuracy database that includes a 1.0 mm calibration kit (85059B) and a 1.0 mm verification kit (85059V). Building on this foundation, the new broadband millimeter wave solution delivers measurement results traceable to national metrology institute standards.

The core components of the system are a Keysight PNA or PNA-X network analyzer, along with compact N5293A Series frequency extenders and the N5292A test set controller. To simplify benchtop measurements, engineers can mount the frequency extenders on an optional benchtop positioner.

The reinforced 1.0 mm test ports ensure connection repeatability, improving calibration uncertainty and, therefore, the overall measurement accuracy of the system. Users can automatically de-embeddle measuring tools for connectorized measurements or perform probe tip calibrations during wafer measurements.

The optional 900 Hz start frequency, with 205 or 425 Hz options, allows engineers to characterize the performance of their devices at low frequencies. This is especially useful when measuring low-loss transmission line structures commonly used in high-speed digital applications.

Keysight has partnered with solutions provider Cascade Microtech to offer a complete wafer measurement solution (WMS) based on the N5290/91A and Keysight's WaferPro Express W8580BP basic measurement package (software, drivers, and database). The WMS program provides guaranteed setup, installation, and technical support to minimize risk and reduce the time required to perform the first measurement.

The broadband millimeter-wave solution also supports several of Keysight's proven measurement applications. Examples include comprehensive characterization of amplifiers and frequency converters (gain compression software option), measurements of mixers and frequency converters (scalar mixer software option), and calibrated multichannel spectrum measurements (extended spectrum analyzer software option).

Keysight also features a multi-touch user interface for all PNA Series network analyzer models. Interface updates include a 12.1-inch widescreen display, easy access to frequently used functions, quick settings using tabbed keys and touch-activated dialog menus, and intuitive single-touch and multi-touch gestures for dragging and dropping or zooming traces.
