The main objective of this initiative is to create a broad base to protect Siemens and its customers with secure products and systems worldwide. It's important to recognize that digital systems and cybersecurity must evolve hand in hand, as digital connectivity makes our lives easier and increases business competitiveness, but at the same time, it increases the risk of cyberattacks.

The new center will be located in Madrid and will have a team of professionals with diverse backgrounds, including experts in risk management, cloud computing, and cybersecurity strategies. They will work on developing technologies and systems for preventing, protecting against, and detecting cyberattacks. Their responsibilities will include detecting any anomalies in this area and responding to attacks quickly and closely with the affected companies or institutions.

Siemens is working with various partners worldwide through the Charter of Trust initiative to promote a joint protocol aimed at creating a safer digital world through binding rules and standards. In Spain, the company is also collaborating with the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) and has jointly established a laboratory in León that serves as a testing ground for developing security tools, procedures, and controls. This testing center helps train, disseminate information, and evaluate real-world cases occurring in Spain to minimize cybersecurity incidents each year. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, cybersecurity threats caused losses of €500 billion worldwide in 2018. Due to the current use of technology and data transmission, massive data theft and fraud, as well as large-scale cyberattacks, have become one of the world's leading risks, according to the World Economic Forum's 2019 Global Risks Report. Furthermore, these threats are expected to become increasingly sophisticated and aggressive.
