Fujitsu Limited and KDDI Research have announced the successful development of a high-capacity, multi-band wavelength multiplexing transmission technology using existing optical fibers. The two companies have developed a technology that enables the transmission of wavelength bands other than the C-band, which has not been used in commercial medium- and long-distance optical communications, by employing batch wavelength conversion and multi-band amplification. The fiber optic communication network introduced with this technology allows the transmission of wavelengths with a multiplicity 5.2 times higher than that of current commercial optical transmission technology.
