Recently, the GCF announced the inclusion of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technologies based on cellular networks (LTE) in its certification program. This certification focuses on LTE Sidelink, an adaptation of the core LTE standards defined by 3GPP Release 14, which enables communication between two or more nearby devices. It can be deployed on any LTE band. The 5.9 GHz band is allocated for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services.

GCF Approval of the Test Platform

Rohde & Schwarz already meets the GCF's Test Platform Approval Criteria (TPAC) for C-V2V protocol conformance testing. The certified solution combines established Rohde & Schwarz hardware platforms with additional software. The R&S CMW500 supports LTE-A and WCDMA/HSPA+ cellular standards and provides LTE Sidelink functional testing on the communication link to the C-V2X module. The R&S SMBV100A simulates GNSS signals from global positioning services such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou. GCF-approved protocol testing is implemented via the R&S CMW-KK550 software package.
