In the event of unexpected occurrences, such as a segment attenuation, this information is available via SNMP-Trap (Simple Network Management Protocol) and can be sent as a warning to one or more freely selected network participants. This new application, presented by Phoenix Contact, can be explored in more detail at the SPS IPC Drives trade fair in Nuremberg.

Furthermore, the managed Ethernet extenders feature integrated, replaceable surge protection. The intelligent Plugtrab PT-IQ technology employed not only handles the corresponding protection but also allows for remote monitoring of the surge protection status at any time. In an emergency, an SNMP warning can be set. The devices thus autonomously report which surge protection unit needs to be replaced quickly or where immediate replacement is required.

By automatically detecting data rate and topology, extender applications can be easily and automatically expanded with up to 50 extenders during operation, without any feedback, in both line and ring topologies. Special cables are not required. Any two-wire Ethernet cable can be used for interconnection. This allows for transmission distances exceeding the corresponding standard by up to 20 km per extender segment.
