6480A wThe number of Bluetooth Smart devices** offering Bluetooth LE compatibility is growing rapidly across a wide range of applications. The new IC adopts an original low-power circuit design and integrates a high-efficiency DC-DC converter, reducing peak current consumption to below 6 mA and sleep current consumption to below 100 nA.

The TC35667FTG also integrates an ARM® processor, allowing the download and execution of client programs stored in the EEPROM. It supports application customization, eliminating the need for any external microcontroller. The receiver has a sensitivity of -91 dBm, and the transmitter's output power can be varied from 0 dBm to -20 dBm in 4 dB steps.

Housed in a 6mm x 6mm QFN40 package with a 0.5mm pin pitch, the IC's low power consumption will enable the adoption of Bluetooth LE communications in small devices while promoting long battery life. The IC supports the GATT (Generic Attribute Profile) defined server and client functions.

Toshiba will expand its range of devices to include support for automotive applications of smart Bluetooth devices.

* Low energy communication technology defined as Bluetooth® Ver. 4.0.

** Devices that adopt the Bluetooth® core specification Ver. 4.0 or higher with the basic low energy configuration, and that use the GATT (General Attribute Profile) based architecture specified in Bluetooth® Ver. 4.0.
